The first visitor of this area was Bartholomeu Diaz a Portuguese discoverer in the late 15th Century. But it takes another nearly 400 years until Franz Lüderitz was founding a small settlement named Lüderizbay. At the beginning of the 20th century in 1908 the first Diamonds where discovered, and the Diamond fever spreads out. Within short time Luderitzbay and “Kolmanskope” a bit outside of the town was growing enormously up to 20 000 people where settle around Luderitz and Kolmanskope area, and where digging for Diamonds, and Luderitzbay was the richest town Africa’s. But this time is over, and Kolmanskope today is a ghost town. Only Luderitzbay still exists, and grows since the independence Namibia’s.
